DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) The Davenport riverfront may never be the same. That was the message from city leaders following a meeting with Canadian Pacific executives Wednesday morning......

The DRI line will actually be dry? (not like this has not been proposed before - well before CP showed up and swallowed DRI&NW, leaving BNSF with just rights.)

Wonder what the USACE has been shown and do they concur?

The whole area is flooded and they worry about not seeing the river? It just came to them. They need floodwalls or dikes to protect the businesses in downtown. The raised railroad effectively can be part of a dike. But maybe getting flooded every so often is okay with the locals?

With the river running through the town - they get their riverview up close and personal.  Live with a river, die with the river - Mother Nature doesn't care.   Hide the river and Mother Nature will overcome.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

In recent months, tempers have cooled somewhat, giving way to an approach that accepts the raised tracks and seeks to remedy the situation through partnership. But Riverfront Improvement Commissioner Karl Rhomberg, who’s been highly critical of the railroad and the city’s response, continued that stance Tuesday night.

Rhomberg bemoaned what he described as a city government that’s “raising the white flag of surrender,” saying he thinks local officials should officially support binding the railroad to restoring the riverfront to its original state. He called for fellow commissioners to approve a motion to that end, but received no support Tuesday.
