"What's old is new again": Literally decades ago - in the late 1960s and early 1970s - CN ran container trains out of Halifax, as reported in an article in Trains at the time by F. H. Howard. More importantly, the Trains Professional Iconoclast writer of a then-regular column - John G. Kneiling - advocated many times for Halifax for the same reasons as in the article, plus that Halifax was ice-free year round and needed no dredging to be a deepwater port. I'd provide citations but the damnable Magazine Index here is still non-functional.
So is the comment function below the article - I get a message to the effect of "Error connecting to commenting service". Sheesh - that kind of thing will only discourage participation here.
