ShroomZed selector Verification may be the new term for what used to be 'probation'. 12 years ago, this forum was being polluted, and I use that term advisedly, with the vile vituperation of about five or six really nasty, and I think pathological, personalities, who would show up on Friday evenings with banked and dormant accounts, activate them, and begin to post filth, our hosts realized they needed to take drastic action. Apart from agreeing to trial member moderators, they knew to prevent 'new' accounts from being able to post. Informally, it took between 5-7 posts for the mods to agree, always among them privately, to let someone new loose on the membership. Worked very well. Welcome to the forum, ShroomZed. Thanks guys. I will bet that the reason it took longer for me is that I post a bit infrequently in that I will go away for a few weeks or months and then come back, and so I was out of the radar.

Welcome to the forum, ShroomZed.
As Selector Noted :"...WELCOME to the Forums" ShroomZed!
As to what Selector noted: You can pretty well take that to the bank!
And the same for Murphy Siding: Both, well versed in the rough and tumble of Moderation, around here !

I do not know what criteria they used, but just from my own personal opinion, the username you have chosen might have appeared a little "free spirited" .

Thank you very much. Appreciated.
Murphy Siding12 years ago, back when the internet was nice
I mentioned on another post that, like many others, I post on several types of forums.
One is a city's architectural engineering forum, which is not moderated. It has had to deal with posters who are unhappy with the political situation, and who make comments unrelated to the topic.
I appreciate this forum's administration which provides this for us to enjoy, and watches to make sure the topics discussed are about our hobby. This isn't the case on many other forums.

Murphy Siding12 years ago, back when the internet was nice. Since then, these forums went through some phases where a few unhinged individuals made it a hobby to open hundreds of fake accounts and then troll the forums with the most vile content.
At about that time I built a website for a newly established ambulance service. Since it was heavily volunteer based, I figured a nice chat area would be nice so the volunteers (and paid staff) could, well, chat.
That was fine until a group of folks found it and took it over as their own. Nothing vile, but certainly inane. That got shut down in a hurry.
I'm on a forum for another industry - they still have trouble with spam, and the owner, unfortunately, doesn't monitor as closely as they should.

I am a relatively new and fairly infrequent poster. I think once I had posted about 5 times, I was taken off the “watch” list. Your mileage may vary.
Deggesty Thanks, Overmod. I did not recall a delay in my first few posts appearing, 12 or so years ago.

Thanks to Chris / CopCarSS for my avatar.

DeggestyWhat is "verification of posts?" So far as I know, my posts have not needed to be verified; am I actually privileged as another poster claimed me to be fairly recently?
When you first join the forum you're automatically put on verification until you 'make your bones' with a couple of posts that indicate you're not a spammer and can control your means of expression. Normally a moderator will watch this for a few days and then make the necessary back-end change that allows the member to post 'regularly'.
He was complaining that for some reason this hadn't been done; Mr. Lassen, who is in a position to fix this directly, implicitly has said that he's done so.

First of all I know this isn't the correct place to ask this, but there are no metaforums on here, and I couldn't find any other place to ask anyone about this.
I've been a member for several months and have made several posts, including a few topics, and my posts still say they need to be verified. Can anyone do something about this? Thanks.
