Did they say the loco had 18 cylinders?
Yes. CP 4744 was the only M640 built, and was the only locomotive to be powered by a V18 251, but that engine was a production model (not a prototype) and was also found in stationary and marine settings.
Today 4744 resides in the Canadian Railway Museum in Delson, PQ. Behind her in this shot is the last surviving FM TrainMaster:

Can't forget about CN either:

The funny thing is, those computer screenshots from the start of the video look awfully familiar...
I was fascinated by this series as a kid, there were several:

Here are a bunch more from years gone by:

This one is probably my favourite:
At 1:30 it's a bit long for a commercial and would cost CP more to air it, so I'm not surprised it didn't stay on the air for long.
A nice bit of short film-making though.
I'm sure John Deere kicked in something. Family values, not stupid or gross, a wee bit corny but that's ok.
Being a nice ad I'm certain it was filmed in Saskatchewan. Just would not work out so 'nicely' in Alberta or Manitoba. We have better wheat too. ... and better rails, and locomotives like it here 'cause it's so flat!
This was on the air only briefly a few years ago and then it just disappeared. It's a well done commercial though, I think.
