Been home since Friday, getting warm enough down south that I decided to get the air conditioning fixed on the semi. Dealer found a bunch of recalls and campaigns that also need to be addressed, so we are tackling those as well........
Mud, been following that wreck out by you, looks like the company that caused it has issues with brakes and the drivers not able to understand English, which may explain why he passed the runaway ramp...........

We got about an inch of wet, sticky snow on Saturday afternoon and evening, which was all gone by noon on Sunday. Lynn got a few prom pictures from our granddaughter, so she seemed to have a good time. We both agree that she is not too happy about the way the weather turned out over the entire weekend.
Our winter storm was pretty much a fizzle. I don't think it met expectations (or fears) because the ground was warm...it snowed for as long as it was supposed to, but most of it melted in a hurry. Still, the snow stuck around long enough to set a record for largest snowfall late in the season. Thankfully, the next four days' precipitation will be more liquid in nature.

samfp1943Power was Two CN leaders (GE's (54 series, and 2nd out was a 46 series), and a BC Rail unit in DP (numbers were pretty smoked out, but the series was 56..) [Unusual, because there was no BNSF power in train.]
I'm not sure where you're located, but I regularly see unit oil trains in both directions going between the UP Milwaukee and Adams sub with only CN power (usually the same 2 x 1 you saw).

Had a good time at the train show.Matt also visited the railroad club.Ns ran trains as well.As far as Grand Lake the water is flowing over the spillway on the west(Celina) end.It was also causing problems on the east(St.Mary's) as well.St Mary's usually does not open it's side as often.The St.Mary's river is also affecting family in the Rockford area too. Not sure if RJ Corman will be able to get to Coldwater ohio to switch.Matt has to get ready to go do dishes.

Didn't know you were from the Grand Lake area. I have a curiosity that you might be able to help with.
At the lake's west end is a fixed concrete spillway with it's output into Beaver Creek which ultimately flows into the Wabash river.
At the lake's east end is a controlled gate sluice that eventually empties into the St Mary's river.
Do you have any kind of feel for how much human effort is put into trying to balance the outflow from the lake between the Wabash and the St Marys' ?
Put another way, do you know if periodically they open the gate increasing outflow at the east end of the lake, to reduce outflow into the Beaver Creek/Wabash system during flood events?
Saturday AM; Beautiful day and temps in the high 40's. supposed to rail later in the day. Saw a really inusual sight while eating breakfast. WB here, was a solid Crude Oil Train, est. at about 5000'+, of all same type of car.

Apologise for the lack of full number series, but it was moving at about track speed, and numbers were not fully visible over the fence. All units were dirty. and pretty 'smoked up' Also, it is unusual for one of these to roll through here at that kind of speed..

Speaking of cats-- I keep wondering how they maintain their muscle tone. They sleep most of the day, and even when they are awake they spend most of their time lying around. But in a fraction of a second, they can bound up, run at high speed, climb trees, leap tall buildings in a single bound, &c.

Yesterday, both I and the cat had doctor's appointments. But not with the same doctor. She got a booster shot, I didn't. Both of us got a thumbs up from our respective doctors overall.
The cat's doctor said one of the booster shot's side effects was it may cause drowsiness. Our cat seems like it sleeps 20 hours a day normally. How can they tell if it's the side effects?
Did errands this morning.Took brother out for a bit.He wanted to see the Indiana Northeastern pull into the yard in Montpelier.They parked the engines there in a side track.The orange barrels of spring were all over on the main roads so I took a few back country road shortcuts.Came home young man was trying to mow his part of the swamp before the weather comes.He ran out of gas.Made a tankful donation and told him good luck.Carl friend of mine said the cock& bull pub is still running.As for tower A the website says it is closed to the public for now.Matt gets to do dishes tonight.
Paul, our lovely green lawn has already turned white. We went out before breakfast to get some hunker-down supplies (and Diet Dew was on sale!).I remember the pub in Glendale as the Cock & Bull (or something along those lines).I also remember Winston Place as the spot to watch trains in the Cincinnati area (at least for my kind of train-watching). What I'd like to do is sneak back to our favorite hotel, right by the C&O bridge in Covington, and just look out of one of the windows on the end of the hallways, getting those cars at eye level. If the weather were ideal, the parking garage would work, too.
Erik - Will happen eventually, but we don't expect to see Paul until well into the summer. The formal swap happens sometime in August after Don T & Paul H have had a chance to ease-in the turnover and the responsibilities unique to CRRM. As part of the weekend tribe, largely confined to the stacks and backrooms of the library, I'll probably be among the last to encounter him as he gets moved over here and settled-in.
Part of the metro area is supposed to get a few inches of SNOW today, how much depends on where you live. My granddaughter is going to her senior prom tonight, hope that the weather isn't too rotten.

Me-thins Tower "A" is still under heavy restoration as CRRC's meetings are all up at Winton Place/Elmwood Place. Don't know the story on KY.(know CUT had issues with leaking roof and 1930's plumbing, even after the 89 and 94 fix-em ups.)

The pub in Glendale has been struggling to stay open and keep the same owner. Check first if you go that route. (about 3.5 miles east from where Electroliner and I grew up, we could hear the B&O/CSXlocomotive whistles).... Meritage or Cock&Bull these days IIRC, no longer Rail House or Iron Horse Inn (what I remember). ... Can't go wrong with Grand Finale, but it's not near the tracks.
You can hear the 567s , 645s and 710s throb (in towboats on the Ohio River with the ex PRR main out to Undercliff (Now Cincinnati & Eastern) close by at Montgomery Ribs boathouse.

Today was a day for working on fresh sightings, doing some yard work, getting Pat to the gastrointerologist (he was very reassuring to her), and now I'm ready for bedtime.Yesterday, though, we took a trip to Milwaukee, to finally get to the exhibit Pat wanted to see at the quilt museum in Cedarburg (it comes down this weekend). Interstate 94 in Wisconsin was a disaster--so much so that we took a more scenic route home, via Burlington, Antioch, etc. (I was hoping for some action on the CN, but nada). I would have loved to drop in unannounced at Kalmbach, or watch trains at Duplainville, but those locations have not yet stamped themselves on my mental map (and we did not have the other kind with us). I didn't mind the fiber-art show (it wasn't all quilts, due to subject matter), and even used my charge card to renew our membership in the museum. But for me, the high point of the trip was a quick detour to Bryn Mawr, west of O'Hare, where there were three trains in view (two CP manifests, one UP coal train). The manifests were reasonably ripe for the picking...I got two fresh reporting marks from them (two renumbering tables needed, and two files for the two new companies). interestingly, both had the same source for their cars--the covered hoppers once operated by the Saskatchewan Grain Car Corporation.One of the trains had several new (2/19 for the one I could read the date on) TILX tank cars. As it turns out, I needed a bunch of TILX series that were not yet on the record, so this 125-car series turned into over 600 new cars for the New-Builds Table. Unfortunately, I then found one 600-car series that had been listed in two places...so that, as they say, takes care of that!Joe, looking down the road, are you going to be around home the first Sunday (or Monday) in August? The C&O Historical Society Convention is in Cincinnati this year (it's the C&OHS' 50th Anniversary, and I've been a member since Year One), and I thought we'd take a less direct route home, if possible. Or, perhaps, is The Shovel still doable in Marion?

Ns had some cars uptown to move around when I got off work.Not a bad day to work more outside.Found out we need to send hugs to a former neighbors family.She would be proud of how Matt has grown.She would be "Miffed" about some of the other happenings going on.More chores to do inside.
