I've heard that the Black Mesa and Lake Powell RR will shut down in the near future.  Is that true ??

Meanwhile, the Navajo Mine Railroad recently shut down its 50kV electrification, replacing 3 electrics with 2 new GE diesels.

It's cheaper to generate electricity with natural gas.  Closings and conversions are now frequent.  The rails will largely lose a major bulk cargo within 10 years.

Until the price of natural gas rises to offset any savings...it happened before it will happen again, but coal will not regain it's status that it once had.
