U.P Radio Frequency

I have just moved from living next to the BN-ATSF Raton sub in New Mexico to living next to the U.P El Paso -Dallas F.W. ex T&P line in Odessa-Midland, Texas and am having trouble finding the radio frequency(s) used in this area. Can some one help? Wouldn't it be possible for TRAINS to have a page of radio freq's on-line? Also the same for reporting marks? I'm seeing so many different and unusual marks down here that I could use the help in train spotting.

The only two freq. that I know that UP has is 160.470, and 160.740, but the intersting thing is, that where I'm from UP is still using the old SP freq. Try 160.320 or 161.550. Plus what kind of marks are seeing? You could possibly try the AAR website. If they have them posted, then there you go. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information. I have the Radio Shack book, however, it is very old and goes back before UP took over this sub plus the fact that my copy is in New Mexico and not available to me right now. It'll be nice to get all my train stuff in one location. There are no real train hobby shops in the Permian Basin, just for RC planes and boats and of course Hobby Lobby which isn't much of anything. Thanks for the help, I'll try and see if I get a hit.

If anyone reading this is familiar with short line railroads operting in the Texas Permian Basin, I'd like to hear from you. I have some questions.

Does your scanner have a "search" function? If so, set the low end freq. to 160.215, and the high end to 161.565, and have the radio scan this entire range. You will pick up any rail traffic in your area. This frequency range is valid anywhere in the US.

Also try going to your favorite search engine and type in "railroad radio frequencies" or "radio frequencies" (all without the quote marks) and you will be amazed at what is out there to listen to.
