A log cabin isn't always clearly visible as such from the outside. I remember going to Sunday Mass in Grand Portage MN in 1976 in a log cabin church. The church had white siding on the outside but the logs and mortar were quite visible on the inside.

Paul of Covington-- You are absolutely correct but a cabin is a bit of a stretch. We have regular homes. I watch and enjoy from my patio doors, overlooking the backyard, from the kitchen, enjoying my morning coffee. Even my dog limits her time to 2 minutes tops. Vehicle has auto start, nice and toasty when I get in, and kept in garage that has propane heat. You have to limit your outside time, frostbite in minutes.
Tornados are scattered all over middle and south Georgia. So far closest about 40 miles south of us. Columbus ga and into Alabama a different story. Total count will probably take several days. At least 30 different locations but how many were same tornados not known yet. Probably will effect some RR lines. Saw on TV what appeared to be the bottom frame of a mobile home. Axel only part of home still attached.

Co-workers team punched the ticket for Columbus.Got to see conductor friend take q 150 out of North Baltimore.Was able to secure some good salads for a cookout coming up in Deshler.Snow squalls this afternoon.Matt needs to do dishes.Back to work for me tomorrow.

Actually I wouldn't mind a little of that. The last couple of weeks we've had several days in the low 80's, and a bunch of flowers are in bloom, but we might be flirting with a light freeze in about three days.

Tried to bring the warm weather back from Louisiana with me, but it wanted to stay south. Hopefully I'll at least avoid the snow, the quarter inch of ice I busted off the front of the truck was fun enough today...........

Carl,yes the Cora book has seperate chapters for the railroads you mentioned.No it's not the clinton st. can opener.It's the bridge over the maumee river.Was off early today to run errands.The Ns local was uptown about ready to drop off some cars.Here in Defiance the csx local was working on getting cars to GM.Mow was also busy working on their bridge over auglaize river.Glad tomorrow is Friday.Might go near Mortimer on Saturday.A co-worker is playing in a basketball game that day.We'll see what the boss says.

They got a train stuck in the snow at State Center the other day during the worst of it. Second engine was DC, traction motor overheated and it stopped loading on the hill. Had the Z train behind it cut off his engines and try to shove them over the hill. Only suceeded in shoving them far enough to block all the crossings in town when they hit a 10ft high drift. Besides the Z, an autorack train had entered the block. Block being between control points, not individual signal blocks in this case. I think they finally got the train out after about 24 hours and a few relief crews. Luckily the town has a road that goes underneath the tracks.

Winds are finally settling down here, and have changed to northwesterly. That takes lake effect off the table for us, but there's still some on the radar down toward Syracuse.

Our winds are hanging in there at the moment - with few exceptions they've been running 15-20 MPH with gusts to almost 40 MPH here at the house. They've been that way since early yesterday evening.
Should subside by early afternoon.
OTOH, the lake effect machine is cranking up, with several areas under "don't go there" travel restrictions.
Small doggie warnings (we have two Chihuahuas) were posted all day yesterday, wind gusts up to 55-60 MPH. Generally was a good day to stay inside. Fortunately, the trash cans didn't blow over. The winds are beginning to subside today but the temperatures are dropping.
