Hi all,
I work just outside Princeton, In. and yesterday, Friday Aug. 31st, I saw a Chicago Metra MP36PH behind two CSX Gevo locomotives headed southbound toward Evansville. It appeared to be running although I could be wrong. This is not the first time I have seen Metra locomotives on this line in Southern In. The last time they were F40,s and there were two of them also heading south. This line does run from Chicago to Evansville, In. on the old L&N ex C&EI. Just wondering why?
Thanks, Ralph

Just a guess - could be heading to Waycross, GA for Locomotive Specialist to perform some 'service' on it.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
Thanks for the reply. I wondered if could be something like that, I didn’t think it would be leased power but stranger things have happened.

Any chance that this was added-in to the herd that were tired F40's being rebuilt in batches as F40PH-3's at Progress Rail in Mayfield KY (this is not Paducah, but handed off at Madisonville to PAL)????

As far as I know, the Progress Rail rebuilds for Metra currently are taking place at Patterson Georgia.

Certainly near Waycross.
I've seen them on occasion on CN's Edgewood Cut-off, diverting to the PAL after crossing the Ohio River bridge, and into the Yard at Paducah. PAL has a local that runs to Mayfield. Perhaps CN and CSX share the business.

Thanks for the info! I saw one near Springfield, Tennessee heading back home this week.
Thanks. This goes a long way in explaining the Metra F40 that I spotted at Barr a few weeks ago.
Locomotives are usually delivered via freight, and since metra has been ordering new locomotives (from my knowledge, due to the F59PHis they just ordered from amtrak, and new coaches). Plus, it really isint uncommon to see this stuff happening when a railroad orders new locomotives/trainsets. Heck, when the acelas were being delivered, freight railroads would pull them. Its just an efficient way of delivering locomotives, so if you see one, dont be suprised.
One of the only railfans who gives a crap about the MMA, despite not living IN the northeast.

CSX Southbound(?) in that area; could also possibly, predict a destination for the Progress Rail's Engine Facility at Mayfield, Ky. With a CSX connection to the Paducah & Louisville's branch to Mayfied,Ky. (?) Just a guess .
