I was looking over the 2017 to 2018 car fleet totals report by the American Association of Railroads and was surprised and pleased to see the boxcar fleet actually grew this year Equipped and General fleet went from 108,800 to 109,400. It is not a giant increase, but still nice to see being a fan of the underdog boxcar. There is still a lot of strong demand for use in the wood/paper products industry, building supply, metals, beer and food service. With a severe trucker shortage, they can be a helpful alternative.
