I often want to share pics and info about a old rail served factory I found lineside or about a bridge or about a engineering problem that is rail related. Even a old dive bar in a railroad town that is trackside can go in. But trying to shoehorn into the existinbg subjects does not seem to work.
Why not just post in "general discussion?" Maybe start it with "Structures:" and then whatever the topic is ... but try to keep those topic titles a bit shorter, please.

Something like "Unique Trackside Structures" might work. Otherwise we'll end up with pictures of every blueprint railroad structure ever built. Same with the bridges.

Thanks to Chris / CopCarSS for my avatar.
Murphy SidingI think you're on the right track. Steer all the photos to one common thread. If it's not asking too much, it would be good if each photo was accompanied by some text from whoever posted it. For example: "This is the spur track leading to the abandoned girdle factory outside of Bugtussle TN."
A pet peeve of mine on FB - someone posts a photo or video with absolutely no accompanying information, probably because they're sure that everyone will know it's the abandoned girdle factory in Bugtussle... It took several "reminders" before one fellow started posting that kind of info.
Another important thing is to properly credit the photo. Don't just grab the URL from an image site and paste it here. Copyright issues notwithstanding, doing so without giving proper credit is just plain rude. On an antique fire apparatus FB page, it's common to see "Joe Smith Photo, from the Tom Jones collection."
And a reminder - this forum doesn't host images, as some fora do. It must already be hosted somewhere else, and you then link the URL.

Sounds like a great idea to have a online archive of this before it all goes away.
Until the links fail or the server goes the way of the dodo.
FRA has already lost or done away with some of it's own system archived forms...
I am not in favor of creating more sub-forums. As a matter of fact, I would like to see Steam & Preservation combined with Locomotive, and also Transit combined with Passenger. There is much overlap in those catagories.

I don't think the OP envisioned a separate sub-forum - just a thread, rather like "String Lining."
If everyone loses interest, it'll just sink out of sight.
I liked the comment about keeping the titles shorter...
I actually like the idea of an engineering/MoW/bridge/structure subforum, though not sure if it would be worth the hassle.

We have done pretty well for 10 years talking about the Sunset Route on a single thread.
I have seen plenty of threads die when they get moved out of General.
There's a pretty good one on another forum, moderated by George Harris, a very experienced engineer. Even I learn things from his posts.
