Electroliner 1935What I could see making a great disaster movie about is in Englewood, having a NS stack train drop on to the Dan Ryan xway and the CTA red line while passing a crude oil train which then crashes while a Metra Rock Island commuter train falls off the its bridge onto the Dan Ryan due to bridge damage from the NS derailment. I know. Too much time for wierd thoughts.
When it happens NSA and Homeland Security will find you.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
Right thru there is were I'm talking about. That line until the CSX reaches Joliet is owned by Metra. That's the line that serves several plastic plants near by here about 20 miles north. It's the ex Rock Island line that becomes the Iowa Interstate at Bureau Junction.
samfp1943Take out a bridge in "The Windy City" , a rail derailment, in 'the right place' might accidentally! My money, would be on an out-of-town Trucker making a delivery to a 'new' customer.. The odds of that 'wounding' an overpass in the City...would be substantially, greater. Not to mention, the 'topping out' of a trailer.
Happens more often than you might think. Usually a driver new to the city. Many of the underpasses in chicago have clearances under 13' and have deroofed quite a few trailers. Usually with little damage to the viaduct. They were built well back in the early 1900's after the city decreed that the rails had to be elevated.

CShaveRR Shadow the Cats owner Nah, the best one would they derail one in Chicago and drop a couple cars onto an expressway. I can imagine the news on that one. Unfortunately for your scenario, CSX doesn't go over many expressways in Chicagoland...for the most part the highways are the high ways. Still, a well-placed disaster could take out an overpass, and that would take even longer to repair.
