I don’t know how much on-line traffic is generated by this segment, as NS has other track going everywhere this line goes as far as through traffic is concerned. However, they also have substantial Utica Shale-related business in eastern OH, and that plus whatever else on-line traffic there is must help to keep the former Pennsy main line profitable, or they would have jettisoned it years ago.
I have relatives in the area and do have a little familiarity with the area.
The east part of OH is similar to the CN lines in WI and Upper MI that are North and east of the CN main from Duluth to Chicago. Really no through traffic anymore but a lot of feeder lines sending substantial traffic to the main.
Vs. when I was last here in 2000 when there was a train every 20 min. Not sure if there is even a IM Train on this line.
