Are there any photos of this branch with diesel locomotives? It was abandoned in the 80's What was the motive power for the branch?

The last remnant may have been abandoned in the 1980s, but the rest had been cut back in stages. A 1975 CNW ETT shows the line ending at Roland. A 1978 ETT shows in being cut further back to Zearing. I didn't dig out my 1972 issue to see if it was still intact to Story City.
I believe there was a photo story during the steam era of the Story City branch fairly recently. "Fairly" meaning it doesn't seem that long ago, when it turns out to be quite a while ago.

Several years ago, I checked out this book at my local public library.
It was a great book, had a detailed synopsis of each branch.....some pictures...it might be worthwhile to see if your local library has it, or can get it on intralibrary loan.
I always thought this line would have made an interesting merger partner with Wabash and Nickle Plate......maybe throw the old Frisco in too.

I got mine (soft cover version) from the hobby shop in Urbandale (Des Moines suburb) Iowa. I was also able to get it autographed by the author at a later date.
I have that, it's a very good book. Even though M-St.L isn't my primary interest, I usually pick up M-St.L books when they come out because one of my mom's uncles worked for them.
