Automated, driverless trains are coming.
Can you copy and paste an Internet link to the NTSB report on OSA caused train collisions and derailments? That should work fine.
Yesterday I made my first blog post. I had attempted to copy and paste a document from an NTSB report on OSA caused train collisions and derailments in this field, but it appears that doesn't work. A short version of information included in that document is as follows and is the reason for my post.
Train collisions/derailments determined by NTSB to be caused by train crews with untreated OSA: 1) 2001 - Clarkston, MI, 2 fatal, 2 non-fatal injuries. 2) 2011- Red Oak, IA, 2 fatal injuries. 3) 2013 - Chaffee, MO, 2 non-fatal injuries. 4) 2913 - Bronx, NY, 4 fatal, 61 non-fatal injuries. 5) 2014 - Hoxie, AR, 2 fatal, 2 non-fatal injuries. 6) 2016 - Hoboken, NJ, 1 fatal, 110 non-fatal injuries. 7) 2017 - Atlantic Terminal, NY, 108 non-fatal injuries.
Seventeen years and many NTSB recommendations later, railroads have yet to implement effective measures to prevent train collisions and derailments caused by operating crews with untreated OSA. Clearly, regulatory actions are warranted and needed.
