I've been listening to that site myself for some time now..my favorite link is the Harrisburg/Enola feed....usually quite busy with several lines diverging into the area, NS Harrisburg and Pittsburgh Lines, Port Road, Buffalo Line, and Lurgan Branch along with activity in Enola, Harrisburg, and Rutherford Yards. The Scanner Feed has been relatively quiet there today..NS is supposed to ramp back up to normal operations after Midnight of Christmas Night. Yeah, there's not a heck of a lot going on today.

I always listen to the Vancouver, BC feed.
Good mix of CP, CN, SRY and BNSF.

Been scanning for over 30 years, although primarily public service (specifically fire). Still, I rarely travel without a scanner and local frequencies of interest where I'm going. I listen to the CSX NE dispatcher all of the time (as much as they're on).

I got one for Christmas. The Pro-83 from Radio Shack. Haven't had much of a chance to start programming it etc yet. I did listen to some non-railroading related topics today though.

Last Christmas my girlfriend bought me a new scanner, a Uniden Bearcat. i keep the old radio shack one in the car all the times. and the new one is always clipped to my pocket. She regrets buying it now, since i rarely turn it off.

Last Christmas, the old one was just plain beat. Don't know how long regular scanners last, but the old one lasted me a good five years. It's been a year and I still don't know half the buttons on it! Merry Christmas, everyone.

I'm programming the railroad frequencies into my scanner, but my scanner allows room for only 50 more frequencies to be turned into channels, so I don't have room for all of the frequencies. Are there any in particular that might work well in Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa? This is the first time I've even touched a scanner in my life, so please forgive me if I'm a bit slow on learning about them.

Heck - I've got mine here in the house on a UPS (battery backup) so it keeps running if the power goes off (the bedside table lamp is on the UPS, too). Of course, my primary concern at the house is emergency stuff. The only reason the radio in the truck gets shut off is to preserve the truck battery if I don't drive it for a while.

I got a Vertex V-150 transceiver about 3 months ago, it only picks up RR frequencies, but it gets great reception, I hear stuff that alot of scanners don't pick-up. Also if I get my Ham license I can transmit on some lower frequencies, not the RR ones, the radio doesn't allow that.

But for Christmas I got a eTrex Vista GPS navigator, what a great little device. It is about the size of a small scanner, it has a built in base map of the US and it shows you where you are. It can also be used as a compass, altimeter. It has a trip computer that shows your current speed, avg speed, stopped time, moving time, odometer. It is quite the little tool. Also on the base map if it is zoomed in far enough it does show the Railroads. More detailed street maps can be downloaded from a CD that can be bought.

What a combination, a Vertex Transceiver and a hand-held GPS, now I can hear the trains and maybe find them, but I will know where I am.

If you got the mod in that radio that lets you get RR freqs, you should be able to listen in on just about anything in the VHF-Hi band, including public safety. Just don't transmit....
