On the CSX A&WP sub division at ~ mile 66.1 a wooden bridge over a stream is being replaced. It is not a major replacemet but the present bridge is approximately 120 feet long and appears to being replaced under full traffic conditions. The A&WP sub was built as mostly a ridge runner track without many stream crossings.
Work so far has consisted of building a very heavy construction bridge across the stream to the west between the RR and US-29 at an elevation of ~ 25 feet lower than RR track . A 300 foot boom construction crane has been brough in to operate on the construction bridge.
The crane at present has been used to operate a casion boring machine to build new pilings. The soil at that location is sandy so large deep casions appear to be being built ? The long boom crane is being use to reach across the present wooden bridge .
It appears that new bents will built under each end of the present bridge ?. Then a new bridge ( type unknown ) will be placed on the bents and become part of the roll off old roll on new bridge . Construction has been proceeding slowly for the past 4 weeks. Updates to follow.
