It is quite conceiveable that the Metrolink was told do run up to a certain milepost and stop there. The copter was just a fun thing for the engineer to watch as he did what he was told to do and did not have any effect at all on bringing the train to a stop.

Quite a video, of the copter stopping a Metrolink train account of a fire!
That looks like the Revenna siding area. If so, 30 years ago my step father-in-law and I actually walked by the tracks about where the power came to rest in the video! Back then the siding ended where the power stopped at. We use to watch the oil cans train come south about 3 P.M. Sometimes it met the oil cans train going the other way. That trackage was all Automatic Block Signals in those days. After Southern Pacific sold the line to Metrolink, the new owner put CTC in. Those were fun days. But, now a fire threatened the Metrolink! I wonder if the train was in danger of the fire. Did you ever hear what happened, kingbee33?
Thanks for sharing!

Los Angeles County Fire Dept. Copter 19 “stopped“ an incoming Metrolink train from entering an active fire zone by flying by it. A fire started near the ROW and spread near the tracks. Fire personnel were working on and near the tracks in order to control the fire. LA County fire dispatchers contacted Metrolink via landline to notify them there were firefighters working by the tracks. It appears the message didn’t travel quick enough to the engineer. Not something you see everyday.
