I hav been on-line since October, 1983, first with CompuServe, and then with the Internet. This is the first time, I believe, that I have ever seen this happen--and it happened twice today, the second time when I had edited my first reply.
I always log in with "remember me" checked. I don't know how long I might have been `dislogged in' the first time, but I had gone through several pages of messages in the thread before I realized that I was not logged on, then tried a few other pages,such as looking at this page again, which was still there, before logging on again.
John Liebson Continuing the saga of the oddities of the forum software, when I had read news and one blog, clicked on General Discussion, chose a few articles, marked this section as having been read, read my selected articles. I then clicked on Steam & Preservation, and after a while, wondered why nothing was marked as read, and then noticed that the button to mark all as read was not there, and that I was not logged on. Returned to General Discussion, was logged on there, tried Steam again, not logged on, even though I was shown all the articles, could select and read individual articles. Logged off of the web site, logged back in, tried Steam & Preservation, where I was now logged on, previously-marked-as-read articles were marked, and button to mark all was there, and worked. I had never encountered that odd behavior previously.

I had never encountered that odd behavior previously.
If you login with the "Remember my credentials" box checked when your internet browser loses the session with the server it attempts to use what is cached in memory to make it look like your still logged in while it attempts to reconnect with the server in the background. Usually it reconnects with the server OK and then updates the server with what you did on the cached pages. Sometimes it does not but because you checked remember my credentials it can be sometime before your browser reports back to you that it cannot reach the server...........which is probably what happened to you.
If you do not check that box, as soon as the session is dropped it will either ask you to login again immediately OR it will act as if your not logged in.

Oh, yes they are, they are so smart that they plot evil and then carry it out meanly.
For example, after I posted this reply, I was told that I was logged out, and I don't even own a forest!
