Tatans: Overmod: AND All.
First of all, thanks.
We are "into" Classic Toy Trains" (the bigger stuff). An HO neighbor was going through his consists and wanted to hold onto the more preferred cars that he accumulated over the years and donate the remainder.
The majority of the cars were from Bachmann and Varney with both hook-horn and knuckle couplers.
He asked my opinion.......SO, I posted the questions to what I saw as "General Discussions"
Like they say, "now you know the rest of the story"
Going to let this thread cease now AND, once again, thanks.
There's something I don't quite understand here. The OP has over 2000 posts in the toy-trains forum, so he has to be well aware of where to post model-railroading questions; then he asks about RTR from Varney or using horn-hook couplers ... it makes no objective sense, in the 21st Century or, really, quite a chunk of the late 20th.
There are many current choices for RTR rolling stock ... depending on what prototype you want or what level of detail you need. And in my opinion no one sane still uses horn-hook couplers seriously ... really, even if they want to run HO as a tiny version of more classical brands of toy train.
BTW: When you do ask the other forum your question you will be the 45,000th person to ask this question, and neither of the couplers you mentioned will be the answer.
You'll get more answers over on the Model Railroader forum: http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88.aspx
We talk mostly about 12 inch to the foot railroading here.

If you had a choice of "ready-to-run" HO rolling stock, which would you choose?
Bachmann or Varney ?
Hook-horn couplers or Knuckle couplers ?
As always, many thanks.
