The train that derailed just west of Fort Madison, IA was an eastbound UP train headed for Global 4. I heard that the westbound Chief detoured from Galesburg to Quincy and then west to KC (?).

Looks like the train put some cars on the ground right at a trailing point switch to an industrial spur heading south.

MONTROSE — A train, initially believed to be a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train, derailed about 11;25 a.m.  Monday across from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.According to Andy Williams, who works in public affairs for BNSF, although it is true there was a derailment from a BNSF track, the train did not belong to the company.

“That train was just on our tracks,” Williams said. “It actually belonged to Union Pacific. It was headed eastbound.”..........

Does anyone know why the BNSF mainline to Kansas City appears to be shutdown tonight?  No freight traffic on La Plata, MO camera.  Amtrak 3 from Chicago ended its run in Fort Madison according to the web site.

AMTK 3 of 5 Feb is shown leaving Kansas and arriving La Mar CO 2:45 late on morning of 6 Feb on "Track Your Train" page from amtrak.com.
