RR Tycoon 3D vs. Transport Tycoon Deluxe

So, a question: which is the better game, and why? I had the first Transport Tycoon and numerous versions of Railroad Tycoon, and thought each had its particular advantages: the graphics were better in Transport Tycoon (I really liked the stations and the ability to design trackplans in greater detail), but the functionality didn't seem to be that great. RR Tycoon was great, but it always seemed to be a few levels above where I wanted to be - grand strategic when I wanted to run trains, and all of that.

Please feel free to give me whatever blasts you like: I'm just gathering info.

Transport Tycoon Deluxe + TTDpatch of course.

RR Tycoon 2 is a major pain in that I have capacity issues coming out of the wazoo from excessive diamonds (can't bridge over tracks), trains are too short so I have to run more, large body of water bridges are single tracked instead of double track which eats at capacity too, need to be able to make tunnels because finding a gentle grade just isn't easy at times.

In rail tycoon 2 feeding Richmond Va and the Washington D.C. Meat packing plant to generate food for the Northeast is a railroad all it's down.

Once I had 4 seperate double track mainlines between NYC and Richmond with a station at every industry and it literally choked itself to death as a million (Seems like it) trains sit and burn off fuel and drink water waiting on everything else to get out of the way.

It became a grim exercise in ruthless stock trading and raising money to pay the fuel bills. Eventually it simply escalated until you finally gave out.

What I really want to do is have 60-100 cars of manifests to handle the crush of demand without having 50 seperate trains. The developers may say too much resources.. but this computer is a top machine and is able to run the resources.

Train length is a definate issue with RRTYII

I haven't played it for a while, perhaps I'll take it up again.

You should see what Chicago area on my map looks like. I have 30 different yards (stations) and all tracks are double. There are 2 double tracks that come from southern U.S, 2 double tracks that come from the east coast, 2 double tracks that come from Detroit and Southern Ontario. Because it splinters off into different tracks and passenger/ commuter traffic gets kind of heavy the tracks double into 24 track (12) than add 3 more lines for my high priority intermodals so they don't completely screw up my regular trains so it now looks like I have a 30 track mainline with 300 trains constantly hurrying along with their 6 loads and than off again with their other 6 loads.

I like Transport Tycoon because you can cheat into RR friendly "islands" and pre-place roads (to get income with trucks and buses) using the design feature. Haven't fired it up in a while, though.

I am half tempted to ship the East Coast grain to the western meat packers and run mixed trains as a sort of a captive service.. one packer serves 3 cities for example with food. That way all the RAW material goes West while the North and South bound passenger and mail run on own tracks without interference. Food and goods have the next level down in ranking.

I used to have the shay bring down the ore and coal to a small station, dump it there and have a fast train take it to the mill. The tracks would first be linked to the rest of the network but once built, I would sever the connection so no other train can use that specific route. That seems to help alot.

I am feeling quite ruthless in seeing how much stuff I can move in that game.. I probably will fire it up this weekend.
