AEM-7 and ALP-44. What do they stand for?

Now we all know of the AEM-7 and ALP-44 being two of the most recognizable locomotives to have run on the Northeast Corridor. But I am curious about what their notations stand for. Does anyone happen to know what either one stands for?

ALP-44 stands for American Locomotive Passenger 4-Axle 4.32 MW.  That's straight from Wikipedia.

I'm guessing that AEM stands for ASEA and EMD.
