Trackside with Trains Vol. 315: "Couplers" is open for submissions
Posted by Brian Schmidt on Monday, October 23, 2017 8:57 AM

Congratulations to Robert Jordan for his winning photo in Trackside with Trains Vol. 314!

The theme for Vol. 315 is "couplers." We're revisiting an old topic with this one, so we hope to see your latest work here. Please submit your images by 12 p.m. Central Daylight Time Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, to trackside@trains.com. Only one submission should be sent per photographer. For full guidelines, go to trn.trains.com/photos-videos/trackside.

Not a bad idea, actually.  Perhaps future announcements might include the winner from last time a concept was used...

How do I safely take a picture of a coupler? Right away the image of a overhead view of a coupler comes to mind but so does the image of the train jerking without notice and my body falling thru the cars.

I have one or two taken from the safety of a passenger car vestibule on our railroad...  Maybe I'll dig one out and submit it, although I don't have the RAW versions...

It helps to be sober.  I could get some interesting pictures from the platform at Chicago Union Station, a grade crossing or a public area alongside the tracks.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul
