About a week before CSX started cancelling all these lanes, UP issued a large rate increase for UMAXs bound to CSX destinations. I belive CSX gave UP a heads up that the cancellations were immenent. I think UP thought..holy crapoly! We get x-hundred UMAXs a week sent to us from those lanes! We better jack up our rates to CSX destinations to keep our share of the UMAXs on our network!

I'm curious as to what the effects on UP interline service are going to be now that CSX has cancelled outbound service to a lot of western destinations (see chart for reference). Does this simply mean that CSX will no longer build solid trains, or even solid blocks, for the listed western destinations? (North Baltimore, Ohio will no longer be a intermodal sorting hub.) Instead, I'm assuming, that CSX will deliver anything and everything to either 59th Street or Bedford Park in the Chicago area for UP to pick up and sort themselves; most likely at Global III.
