Woo-Hoo! Cab Ride!
Posted by Firelock76 on Sunday, August 20, 2017 6:20 PM

I was fooling around on the You Tube and found this, and it's too good not to pass along...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHIJBAP9l_I

It's a head-end ride on the Susquehanna RR, from the Susie-Q engine terminal in Ridgefield Park to Butler NJ on the 2013 "Toys For Tots" train. A neat video!

Only five minutes long, but I suppose the fella who posted the video remembered the old show biz adage, "Always leave them wanting more!"

Enjoy it, everyone!

Well, it's not a cab ride, but you get to see me running SW1 #705....

I got to ride in the cab of #6, but it's not exactly spacious, and I was "on duty," so I didn't have a camera.

 Cool!

Tree68, you've got star quality!  And why would anyone want to shut your railroad down?  It passeth all understanding.  What a neat operation!

Doesn't work.  What's wrong here?

It worked in my email--I highlit it, did a right click, and asked it to open in a new tab.

These are nice videos--but, in some respects, cannot be compared with riding from Memphis to Grenada in the cab of the engine on IC #1. I did not have a still camera, must less a video camera with me, but I thoroughly enjoyed the trip, sitting in the center seat and blowing for the crossings until I could no longer distinguish between whistle posts and mile posts (they were the same size and shape) as the sun declined. 90 mph on ABS track--52 years ago. Going through some of the towns, I made the last blast for one crossing serve as the first blast for the next crossing. I am sure that everybody involved , including the Tennessee Division superintendent who gave me permission to ride, is long gone.

It's OK Johnny, I figured it out and fixed it.  My mistake, it's near 10:00 and I'm running out of gas!

You are absolutely correct!  Sometimes I think it's pretty heady just running our Polar Express trains at 30...  But that's not 70+.

I was doing maybe 15 in the switcher - but that was pretty fast if you were in that little 0-4-0...

MidlandMike

Suprised there are still so many depots along the Susquehanna.

Me too, however Susquehanna commuter service lasted until 1966, and since those depots were center-of-town real estate they were re-purposed pretty quickly for various uses, commercial and otherwise.

Here's another head-end ride, on New Jersey Transit's Pascack Valley Line, Spring Valley NY to Hoboken NJ.

PS:  Fasten your seatbelts!  And dress warmly!

And go "full screen" for the best effect, if you've got the option.
