And have been given the usual 'Golden Parachute'; AKA megabucks.

Harrison has created a mess at CSX. This has a tremendous effect on the rail industry for a couple of reasons:

- interchange.....delayed trains mean missed connections.

- poor customer service.......hurts the entire rail industry.

Any othe CEO would have been fired for the problems that Harrison has created.

I've seen many folks sitting at slot machines in the casinos with their oxygen tanks and almost every one of them is puffing away like mad. It always was stunning to see ...how could that even be? 

Well since I never heard of one blowing up whilst playing the slots and smoking suppose it is what it is...but if it ever did it would kill people in the nearby area. Casinos obviously allowed it. 

 

     Saw the same at a local casino, while at a recent birthday party for a relative.      I guess many are not up on the recent addition to some Federal Regs; the concern being, car bombs and Federal buildings: It requires that cars (vehicles) approach no closer that 50ft. of the Entrances, of Federal Buildings.  Our new addition, at the local VA Hospital has a new building and entrance, and is currentnly, non compliant in the mentioned regulation. It is going to be corrected, but will require patient drop-off and pick-ups to be preformed  out in the parking lot, away from the structures. Yes, coverings and various entrance structures will fall within the regulations for distances from the structures... 

 One has to wonder how far such rulings will be taken in the rest of the society? Will railroad crossings have to be enlarged by increasing distances from the tracks, and 'their' hazardous loads.  

       Is Larry(tree68) going to have to unload/load, and add that additional distance to rushing his patients out of, or into his transport ambulance; to be in 'compliance' with some Reg.? 

    Or is EHH going to be fined for some 'violation' for being too close to that locomotive, with his O2 cylinder, for his photo op?

Oxygen itself isn't flammable.  The cylinders are more dangerous because they're compressed gas than their contents.

But when one considers that oxygen is a key component of fire (rapid oxidation, after all), adding all that oxygen to something already burning can be rather spectacular.

That can include hair, clothing, tubing, etc.

Oxygen is not explosive in its own right but it is an incredible accelerant.  For those who are old enough to remember, consider the Apollo I fire.  The fire itself was not that large to begin with but the pure oxygen atmosphere being used in the cabin caused it to expand very rapidly.

I used to see an elderly gentleman downtown that I avoided. He was always pulling around one of those big oxygen tanks on wheels while smoking a cigarette.

 

 

Always a favorite - patient using home oxygen, asks if they can have a cigarette before you load them in the ambulance.

That fellow with all the cylinders in the back of his van?  His wife was standing next to him smoking a cigarette...

 

Just how explosive is an oxygen tank with someone connected by a hose?

Several of the people living here where I live are on oxygen--and they use the medium size bottles that are carried on wheelchairs. From time to time, I wll see about four dozen bottles being brought in in a carrier. One or two use the small bottles that can be carried on a walker. I think that the hall door frame of every room has an "Oxygen in use" sticker on it. There's one on my hall door--and I use the oxygen that abounds in the air.

Bottles are very old fashioned except as a back up.

Virtually any person on a concentrator has a good back-up of cylinders.  As an EMT, I see this all the time.  But I do see a lot of folks carrying cylinders around, too.

An extended power outage will invariably generate several calls for oxygen.

Saw into the back of a van/SUV the other day - there had to be a dozen of the small cylinders there.  Not something I want to encounter at a vehicle fire.

Blue streak you are right.Ms.lady has aportable concentrater and a house plug in machine.  She also has a D.C. converter to 110a.c.for her car. Plus just in case she has a (torpedo size oxy bottle And she carries3 or 4 water bottles, so no fear of being stuck in traffic and a supply of 2 meds to take, her hubby makes sure these are onboard and car has fuel. As for EHH he has a lot to learn.

I really think EHH has C.O.P. D.(Emphezima) asphma, all require oxygen from a bottle being fed through a regulator with a dial on the valve3 litres on up to 5litres. I know a lady who is on oxygen ,24 -7.She has anxious moments when low on air in her lungs. Such as life on the railroad for them folks. 

Bottles are very old fashioned except as a back up.  Portable oxygen concentrators are the way now and many have battery back ups.  Even the Tibet RR cars use concentrators instead of pressurizing the cars as originally planned.

Sure he isn't resurrecting the old B&O Hi-Cube 89 foot stock cars and having them fitted with multi-level shackles.

Sounds expensive.  Perhaps FEMA is subsidising the cost?
