I'm trying to help a relative do research on what railroads might have existed in Central New York in the mid-1800s.

Can anyone help out here?

Thanks,

Try this...

https://www.loc.gov/collections

It's the Library of Congress website.  Scroll down and look for "map" on the left side of the screen, click on that then scroll down again and look for "Railroad Maps 1828 to 1900."  Click on that and start searching. They do have railroad maps of the 19th Century of the Northeast Region.

A faster way to find them may be just to Google search "Railroad Maps 19th Century Northeast United States."

Good luck!

Or just purchase the Steam Powered Video atlas for the region, its an all time map with dates.

NYS DOT has a railroad map that shows all the lines, old and current, but many of the abandoned lines don't have names or dates.

When you say Central NY, are you talking about a broad region, or something more specific?
