This reminds me of when Railtex took over our Central Vermont Railway and won Short Line of the Year, scarcely a month later. The award was for finally beating our employees' 15-month fight against them and the 10901 exclusion in the ICC and courts. It had nothing to do with running a railroad and everything to do with squashing labor.
Shadow the Cats owner These brags about companies saying they are great to work for remind me so much of the TCA and ATA one's they put out. Guess who wins in large truckload carrier over 1000 trucks your going to laugh at this Swift and for refrigerated carriers England. We in the industry say Swift stands for Swing What I F'ed Up Today and England means Every New Guy Leaves After Ninety Days. Yet carriers with under 20 percent turnover aren't even looked at. Why getting a job for us well it takes either a retirement or a driver termination. Yet we never get surveys on how our drivers feel. Why because the big boys would be screwed.

This particular Forbes survey may not reflect whaat the average employee feels. It's IMO, more of a top down look based on selected items (most likely cherry-picked to benefit the employer) the company offers to it's employees. And then probably those employees above a certain level.
There are also "best employers/places to work for" lists floating out there that reflect actual employee views. How they really feel towards their employer and if they would encourage people to work there. A quick perusal of a few lists, usually only top 50 or 100, that I looked at didn't have CSX (or any other railroads) listed.

Perhaps you are "Luckey" you don't get those surveys.

This study should be this year's nominee for the "Dewey Beats Truman" award . . .
As comedienne Paula Poundstone likes to say: "Who does these studies ?!?"

The article said they interviewed 30,000 employees at 18,000 companies. That averages out to about 17 per company. It would seem like the margin of error could be pretty big. How do they determine which 17 out of the 36,005 employees at CSX to sample?

Ulrich These distinctions often have little or no meaning, although CSX may very well be an excellent employer of choice. In Canada we have companies vying for "the 50 Best Managed Companies" distinction. The funny thing is that the vast majority of companies in Canada are never surveyed or tested, so "50 best" only really applies to those companies who've put themselves forward for testing. It would be like me saying that I'm one of the 50 fastest runners in Canada.. because I can outrun 50 fat guys who came out to the track on Saturday while the real running aficionados go unnoticed because they weren't invited to participate.

Ulrich...are never surveyed or tested...
Just watched a YouTube video entitled "best fire truck responses of 2016." Most appeared to have been shot within 25 miles of the submitter's home - a truly limited sample. A few were rather lame besides...

Norfolk Southern (86) and Amtrak (200) rated higher. (So did Rockwell Collins (133). ) However, they did do better than UP (371) and BNSF (386).
tree68 Given recent events, I would question the time period during which the survey was conducted... A study like this doesn't happen overnight.

*{ie: systematic error introduced into sampling or testing by selecting or encouraging one outcome or answer over others..}
Or more cynically; Follow the Money...He who pays for the statistical poll, gets the results they were looking [paying] for.
Good examples of that are the errors in the recent presidential political poling.
Notice has been given that CSX Dispatchers are being recentralized in Jacksonville.
