HH - Methinks the only "problem" if you will, is that your initial post came across as a pitch - as in for a commercial video - rather than as a railfan posting something to share.

The ad apparently confirmed that impression for some.

I would opine that something like "I put together this video of UP and BNSF on Tehachapi and called it....  What do you think?" would have gotten comments on the actual video.

I always click on "skip this video in 5-4-3-2-1-skip seconds..."

You guys are rough. Sorry for stepping on anyones toes. As for the typo and the missing link, I deeply apologize. I was up late last night studying for a final today and was half asleep this morning when I posted. As a college student, railfanning is not cheap. The ads do little if nothing to compensate for the gasoline spent to travel to film these trains so that I can share the content with you. Let me try reposting the link, sorry this forum is quite different than normal forums.

Nice video, HH. Sorry that some are quick to make a statement before knowing the circumstances. Sure, you fell on your face a bit, but all need not be so trigger happy :/

Anyways, enjoyed the video, quite well produced, with a good camera with the filming basics down.

Keep doing what you're doing, and let not this "snafu" impede your forward progess!

The forum has more than its share of 'keep your ball out of my yard' types.  They are mostly toothless hot air machines.

Someone's balls are in your yard?

Isn't that uncomfortable?Wink

If you click on the arrow to play the vidieo there will be no commercial

If you want to help out the OP go to Youtube and play it there.  You will then see the commercial.

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.

And it does help if one knows the difference between conquer and concur...

Conspicuously absent from the bio is 'Journalism Major'. I would welcome an insightful post on the well known 'Tehachapi' topic: http://cs.trains.com/trn/f/111/t/212889.aspx

I was a chemistry major--yet I have long known the difference between "concur" and "conquer." It is not necessary to be a journalism major to know the meanings of words--or how to spell words. One who is well versed in journalism also understands how to compose intelligible sentences.

All true, but then we have"Auto-Correct" where a slight error in spelling or a simple Typo can play havoc with our intended words and no amount of proofreading can get our brains (such as they are) to find all the stupids the computer does to us!

Yep! Depend on the old spell czech and you won't have to proofread anything. Just ask our local newspaper. It works for them.

Your TWO options missed what I think is going on.  Is it right or wrong, in line with or against TRAINS policy, TO GET PAID through the back door by showing free videos with long advertisements on them?

I didn't watch the video - only noted that he had a Youtube channel (as do I).  Your point is spot on.

A lot of YouTube videos seem to have advertisements these days.  I don't know how that works, as I haven't even thought of pursuing the idea of getting paid.

Basically one verifies their account after their channel qualifies, and the owner gets about half of all revenue from ads placed beside their videos. It's called the "partnership program" and has its ups and downs.

For many, the program allows them to increase the quantity and quality of their videos, since they recieve at least some revenue from them.

30 seconds is the price you pay for unlimited free content. Generally, you spend much less time watching ads on YouTube as on TV, as a percent of total time.

Full disclosure: I'm a YouTuber and I use the program. It is great for producers, it really is.

BNSF and Union Pacific Freight Trains battle it out on the steep grades of Tehachapi in The Spring of 2017. Who will concur this treacherous pass?

Listed in his bio as "railroad videographer..."

It's OK if he wants to share his videos, but of course not OK if he's trying to sell them.

And it does help if one knows the difference between conquer and concur...

He may  be a victim of modern "education."

K. P. Harrier

The thread title and what the first post says sounds like a video advertisement of a subtle nature.

The Internet was checked, and there presently IS a video by a remarkably similar title.  It was attempted to be watched but it had perhaps a minute and a half lead advertisement.  Sounds like someone is using the forum to make money, in my opinion.

Interestingly, the poster is listed as having seven posts, but NONE are in the colume for it.  I wonder why ...

I found three posts on the Trackside Guides forum; two of them are on one thread.

Ummm... they don't "Battle" each other!

I am sure most will "concur" that both of them will "conquer" the grade.

I did not understand what is the question is about, but I agree with your response.

Also, I know that the terrain is difficult, but I never thought of it as being treacherous.
