They opened this huge public works project linking the UP and BNSF railyards to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach this past week. And man is it a beaut!
Eliminates 200 "at grade" intersections, and provides 50 overpasses in their wake. One MONSTER trench, which with concrete walls, and hard working diesl's will be sure to require hearing protection for locomotive operators.
I rode the public innaugrial run, and it sure looks slick.
It remains to be seen if cars sitting on those 50 overpasses for rush hour delays will enjoy getting diesel smoke belched on them from below, but hey, no one is perfect.
