Center flow car commodities
Posted by tincansailor on Thursday, April 20, 2017 8:18 PM

While watching general manifest trains go by, I notice on some center flow cars it is stenciled "hammering on side of car will damage product". What would this product be?

What hammering the car side might do is chip the lining.  If that happens, commodities such as flour, sugar, starch, or plastic granules might be contaminated.

Anything that is food grade and the car is lined if you hammer and contaminate the load inside the car then the whole load inside the car is considered unfit for human consumption and must be disposed of.
