Speak of the Devil

Gosh,

I feel bad. All our talk about head on collisions--as well as how rare they are--and what do you know, there is one on Friday, killing a UP engineer. Really feel bad for him and the other injured members. I wonder what caused this one.

I felt as bad when discussing the Queensland Tilt Train in the context of the British HST derailment, to have a relatively similar derailment (for quite different reasons) occur to it within hours of my comments. That's why I started the thread on that one! I found later that one of my friends was on board the Tilt Train, with his family, on a trip won in a competition at a rail engineering conference. He said he didn't notice any fine print about a derailment in the offer!
