Another thought that recognizes the railroad's oldest component, a major junction yard on the old Soo Line, and the fact that it ends at the southernmost corner of British Columbia:

NS might have an issue with that. Canada & South Eastern or CSE. It will be interesting to see where EHH does land.

BVER?
The name of the new entity could be Canada & Southeastern. Kind of fits - eastern U.S. is southeast from Canada. Reporting marks could be CSER.
schlimm Reporting mark: CCR (also as in Creedence Clearwater Revival?)

Like it! Their theme song could be "Bad Moon On the Rise".

Firelock76Reminds me of a tongue-in-cheek business quote I once heard... "If it wasn't for the damn customers we could run this business any way we wanted to!"
Sounds like CP under Hunter Harrison. The decline in online customers on the former Milwaukee Road and for that matter the former locals that used to run up and down the line serving them........ is nothing short of breath taking. Just within the time frame CP took over they had to have shed a good $200-300 million in Wisconsin business alone........if not more. When new business opportunities arise seems like only CN, W&S and UP make a serious bid for it. CP seems to be fast asleep.
I would not be surprised at all if UP purchased CP at a bargain basement price in a few years and gave BNSF a real run for the money.

CMStPnP ScrapRail I have a marketing slogan as well: "We used to have customers but then found we didn't need them" Penn Central & Western would be my second choice.

In keeping with the ambiguity of "we'll call it 'Pull' for me and 'man' for you" we could have C for Canadian, C for Chessie (or whatever), and the Super C name (alas likely to be litigated by BNSF) and call it SuperCC. (Read out loud as SuperSeize, with the herald one-half the CP 'mark' and one-half broken dish -- or better yet, put the sleeping cat back in as an apropos foil to NS's Thoroughbred?)
JoeKohhow about CSX Eh?
CSXA - love the hidden joke...
Imagine trying to explain it to your friends as you chuckle at a passing train....

Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
When Esso (nee Standard Oil) wanted to rebrand, they literally fired up what amounted to a random letter generator. The final result (picked by people, from what the computer created) was Exxon.
On the outside (way outside) chance such a merger were to happen, and given the tendency of corporations to go with such cryptic monikers, I suspect you could throw some Scrabble tiles in the air and come up with something suitable...
History Lesson;
