It's still standing.  Closed after the 1988 World Series earthquake it's surrounded by chain link fence with its parking lot used for storage.  The tower that once controlled the east throat is there, too.  16th and Wood St Oakland CA, with pretty good street views.  How long it will remian is a good question - looks like residential construction is getting close to the south (west) end.

As I recall the building built under the IER platform at the north was SP police department offices. They were added...1960s?  The restrooms were at one end, baggage at the other. Tickets and news butch were in the main room. No restaurant.  Building was pretty plain except for the IER platforms.

Baggage was at the north end of the building.

In the picture below, it's way over on the left.  You can see a couple of the doors.  You are looking from the track side.

I think (but don't know) that ticketing was done at an internal center location on the west (track facing) side.  That would be through the doors at the far right of the picture.

I don't recall much of a restaurant.  If any.  I recommend bringing this up on an SP Yahoo group.  I have no doubt there are people who can answer your questions, including maybe a floor plan.

Taking a wild stab in the dark, here...I have been looking for a floor plan of the old SP 16th Street depot in Oakland. I was through it in 1976 or '77 but remember little about it. I can find no end of photographs of the font exterior and the waiting room interior (the only two things I do recall) but nothing about the layout of the building-ticket office, baggage room, offices(?), restaurant, etc.

Any chance that anyone here has information?

Thanks in advance!
