This morning I saw UP SD60M 2286.The number boards had red numbers on a black background.I have never seen this before. Is this one of a kind? Has anyone else seen this on another unit? This unit had not been sold to a leasing company.

I think the BN did something like that once upon a time with white #'s on a red background on some old GE units, I think in the 80's, but I forgot what they mean. Is it possible that the UP is doing something similar with a similar meaning?

I have seen red on yellow UP numbers on the old GP9's but I don't recall a red on black. Visibility would be terrible.

BN's denoted air repeater cars on long trains in cold weather. Curious to see if the UP fans could enlighten us on what this means on UP.....Never have seen them, but have two grey UP locomotives (no fuel tanks, B23-7m's, UPY 190 series) here in Denver (North Yard)for remote control yard service that never seem to be used anymore.
