It seems like Metrolink can't get a break.

It appears that a Rotem cab car was in the lead and performed well this time.
AAt least the trucker got the rig off the tracks and the only damage was to the gate arm. TV news people should have to learn what they report about. Their credibility suffers each time I see something like this. Does any train have seat belts? I think not.

The truck driver was westbound on Sunland and turning right onto San Fernando Blvd. Since the tracks have parallel streets and traffic lights on both sides, it pays to be a very conservative and defensive driver here. Locals also should be aware of the Metrolink platform not far to the north - surely the Bright Light on the front of the train would have been visible.

The reporting is appalling.
The printed headline and the audio intro indicate the train hit the truck. The story says the truck was not hit, but the truck damaged the barrier arm, which hit the train.
The reporter says "So people went flying..." and his comment is quickly refuted by the firefighter who says he has no information indicating this is so.
I think I would look elsewhere to get the true story.

Less than a week ago I rode the Metrolink Perris Valley Line twice, and from that ride I believe a slow moving train can throw someone around the car that is put in emergency. Whether hospitalized riders were honest or were taking advantage of the situation I suppose none of us can say, BUT I believe Metrolink got away with this one (perhaps), as if it had been traveling at high speed I am convinced there would have been on board fatalities.
Nevertheless, my gut tells me Metrolink will eat this one … or the city.
