As a aspiring railfan author I would like to promote my books not just by putting a ad in the back of Trains but would like to also put a ad in a classified section of Trains webpage. I dont have the time to travel from place to place at railfan and MR swap meets. I think there would be plenty of railfans who would pay a reasonable fee for such a service.

And how about a return of their website directory for advertisers (in the print edition), quietly discontinued in the past year?

Maybe they figured this feature short-circuited the sale of display ads; I don't know. But a display ad is too dear for many of us smaller advertisers, and a listing in the directory made them as much money as the average classified ad.

Re. the discussion of declining circulation on another thread: In this and other cases, TRAINS seems to be its own worst enemy. No letters, anymore; no book reviews; overall loss of personality. And on and on.
