It was something like 103 around here today...Got home, found my wife diggin' potatoes, and turning over the garden.. I took her a smaller fork, and a bottle of water. Hate to have her get sick, she still has to cut grass, and water the garden today.

Blue Streak - trees - that could be about 10-15 different reasons. If really important, you will want to check with a nursery. If they are the neighbors trees, get a good leaf blower.
Sam- here in central nowhere - you will see either a landscaping service or the ladies of the house mowing the lawn. I frankly think they are 1/2 a bubble off, but women seem to love pushing a lawn mower. Funny thing is - I never see them blowing off leaves or grass clippings. Just mowing.
Blue Streak...your wife was in heat? We have been very lucky so far on our trip. We found a little heat in the Salt Lake City-Vegas Baby-Kingman-Barstow area a couple of weeks ago, escaping it by gaining altitude around Tehachapi. Then we left Central California (Bakersfield and Lodi) just before they got scorched with temps around 100.Speaking of Lodi, guess who we saw there! Nora! And sons! And husband! And sister! And Sister's family! And Mom and Dad! (In fact, we were house-guests of Nora's folks for a night.) Mary (Mom) took us on a walking tour of Lodi Sunday morning before sending us on our way.Now we're in Chehalis, Washington. No steam trips this time. The good news is that we got out to Astoria today, the westernmost point on our trip. From now on, whatever isn't north or south will be basically homeward!Happy birthday tomorrow, Joe! (We might be busy in Seattle...hope we get sleep!) You share the birthday with our daughter Linda.Time to run--I think another train is coming, they're barely in sight out of our hotel-room window here, and easy to get closer to.

Was out working in 103 degree heat at Basalt yesterday. Thought about a quick dunk in the snowmelt swollen Roaring Fork River at the edge of our project more than once. (Scared some rafters more than once climbing out of the reeds) Maybe they can convert some of those out of work, never used DOT 110 tank cars to carry ice cold gatorade blue stuff ("frost")? Please deliver to ZTS 172 at Glenwood!
The central Colorado mountains are rediculously green right now. Glenwood canyon was about as green as I've ever seen it and never this late into June. Concerned about this fall when all the green becomes dry brown tinder.

Mooks: No big kitties seen this trip. Plenty of mule deer and mountain sheep in the Canyon on the side of the road, including some really narrow places in the freeway median. The Exploder (poodle truck) did not fall apart, yet.

well Mother nature provided rain but little storm damage here.There were more farm lakes over in Northern Indiana.The NS yard was busy in Ft.Wayne.Trains and tonka toys.Even saw a sperry gator on the rails.Checked the Indiana Northeastern on the way home.They are going to be pulling a grain train into Montpelier Ohio for NS tomorrow.On the way home heard a defect detector go off.Missed one westbound.The second westbound was NS' geometry train.Good weather to finish our vacation.

Went to see the Indiana NE come to West Pergo and get stopped.Seems Ns had no more crews to help get the grain train into the yard.There is also another train for NS too.Where it stopped we do not know.Going to get chores caught up here.

Timber Bridge fires are certainly impressive. On the V&S Railway (Old MoP Hoisington Sub/ "Towner Line)....that thread will pop up here shortly (the experts at everything and proficient at none, dime store youknowwhats with thin skins will try to hijack the thread). One of the few large timber structures still on the line left not replaced by a precast concrete box girder on h-pile bents.
More disturbing was the quintuple fatal with Amtrak #3 at El Moro/Hoehne outside Trinidad (CR 32 location makes no sense from the local reports)...I hope #3's video cab cameras were working if the initial reports of a minivan parked on the track are even half true.

We contacted every state east of the Mississippi, and quite a few west as well.

We are still on our western tour--close enough to completion to be in the same time zone as home (effective today).Pat and I were given a marvelous tour of Sioux Falls (complete with dinner in The Diner) by Norris ("Murphy Siding") and Lisa. They then took us around town to scout for freight cars. As is often the way, the host feels disappointed at what's available (boy, do I identify with that!), but the guest is more than satisfied. I will be busy for 'way too long with the sightings I ammassed today and this evening.The trip has gone beautifully so far, and there's not much more to go. I will have a bit of time around home to do some research on some of what I've seen. As for non-railroad stuff, yesterday was filled with Wall Drug, the Badlands National Park, and Mount Rushmore.Norris made a good suggestion for a stop I should make to find some unusual equipment on the way out of Sioux Falls. From here we will go north to North Dakota (just so we can say we've been there...state No. 44 for Pat and me; 47 for me alone). Then across to Minnesota before heading almost directly home, via the Twin Cities and central Wisconsin. I suppose I'd take a side trip to Rochelle if Pat would let me...

I suffered a similar 'happenstance' week before last...Got lockrd out of Forum and could not view 'Newswire'... Of Course, it was way after hours, on Firday night. I tried multiple way and reenter PW and Sign-on. Finally, out of frustration, I messaged 'Customer Service'
The site caution says they will return a 'contact' within 48 hours.
That put it out to Mon or Tues for 'official response'.....IT did arrive within 48 hours!
My "issue' seemed to have been 'fixed' when I tried it again late monday night.
Only problem was, when I went to sign on, DA SYSTEM required a change in PasWord, that I had used for so long, I'll probably not remember my new one ... SHEESH!
