CSX on da Ground
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, December 4, 2004 11:08 PM
Again. Near the scene of a derailment last year. CSX put 8 cars on the grond late friday on the Ex-NYC Hojack line (Montreal Secondary) near Watertown, NY. No injuries. No hazmat.

I got a picture of the head end of that train (Q620-03 - 141 cars, 5 units at the point) about 20 minutes before the incident. It's not a great shot, but interesting, and maybe Bergie will smile favorably on it.

One hazmat derailed, but not spill. Rest of the cars were lumber, salt, or empty. Speed reported as 10 mph. Cars 30-38 reported to have wrecked.

A crossing near the site was blocked for 90 minutes, until they could move the head end.

I watched boom trucks come in from the site this afternoon, and a ballast train was staged near the crossing.

Local officials are looking for a hunter reported to be in the area at the time to determine if he saw anything important. I would imagine he's probably looking for clean underwear...

I have never heard that, however I have heard Martin Short and what I think he would sound like as a male hair dresser comes to my mind too.

I was thinking more of Martin Short's character from Father of the Bride.

Glad that everyone was safe though.

Looks like the frequency of personality changes is increasing at a log rate. We can hope that they start coming so fast there won't be time to sign up or post before another change takes place.

Don't worry OUR favorit railroad is likely to recover from this one. Glad no one or nothing was contaminated. If something was contaminated then you could start worring about CSX's envirnomental campaign.

Actually, the weather that morning was, well, frightful - between 5" and 10" of really wet snow, depending on where you were. Many cars off the road.

News reports here said weather was not thought to be a factor.

IIRC, the derailment a year ago put the motive power on the ground.

CN5663 on the point, mix of CN and CSX locos behind it.

Have you got that thing cleared up yet? Don't want to hear about no stinkin' snow.
