I used to see a lot of Conrail units in the Roanoke area, I have some nice photo's of a pair of C39-8's, I believe that these ran down from Hargerstown, Md. and have several photo's of Conrail power around the Bluefield and Richlands area of S.W. Va. so Conrail units weren't foriegn to NS pre-merger.
RME CBT could you ever seen conrail locomotives patched because they were bought by NS or CSX? Ye gods! the grammar! The capitalization! It's not 'mdodel' SWE, that's for sure! All kidding aside, there were MANY Conrail locomotives that were patched - I'm sure the railfan picture sites are full of them. In fact, it was not unusual to see Conrail power patched for "NYC" and "PRR" (those being the intermediate accounting entities that Conrail was divided into before 'assimilation') - I remember a couple where the PRR stencil was actually cut to resemble the Pennsylvania's initial 'logo' (although not enclosed in a keystone). I'm not going to prove it, but I think many patch jobs on Conrail engines involved painting over the cab numbers (and in some cases other information on the cab), but not the nose emblems or hood lettering. I remember seeing 'Conrail Quality' in particular until what seems comparatively recently. Contrast this with Union Pacific which goes to some pains to get rid of the "Union Pacific" even when it leaves things like "We Will Deliver" intact (see some of the SD9043ACs that went to NS recently).

I have pix from 2008 of Conrail Locos with their cab sides patched with NS reporting marks & numbers. The rest of the Conrail paint was intact.
My husband is from Streator on the Transcon of the old ATSF. He tells me of railfanning the Streator Connection in fact we bought our house in sight of that track. He has seen every kind of power on that track from old Santa Fe to even get this Ferro Mexico being shipped dead in train being shipped to Mexico to be delivered. We personally have seen all 7 of the US Class 7's on that track. Throw in the occasional Lessor and it makes for some pretty different Consists. Heck he even caught 2 WC's and has the pics to prove it in the 92 when he was in HS.
Thanks, any specific information about Michigan
carnej1 Run through power from all the Class 1 railroads could show up on Conrail trains. If you scroll down through this page there are a couple of photos of Conrail trains with NS locomotives in the pre-merger era: http://conrailphotos.thecrhs.org/ConrailEquipment/ForeignPower?page=8

Hello, I was wondering if in the 1980s you could spot a conrail train with NS power on it? I don't mean patched conrail I mean when conrail was still around. Were NS and Conrail buddy's?
