Murphy Siding
Three CSX locomotives on front, followed by 100 odd covered hoppers. They were all stenciled CSX

I've seen trains like that recently on the Rochelle web cam heading both ways on the UP. Seeing the lcomotives and all of the cars from the same RR put me in mind of the grain and coal trains I saw going past Irricana, as a kid.

They almost don't make 'em like that anymore.

So shovel the coal, let this rattler roll.

I think in my whole life, I've seen one CSX locomotive in operation.  This morning I got stopped by an entire CSX train.  Three CSX locomotives on front, followed by 100 odd covered hoppers.  They were all stenciled CSX, but some still showed Seaboard Coast Lines and Family Lines(?) in worn paint.  On a main line where track speed is in the 45 mph range, ol' CSX was putt-putting along at about 10 mph.  I fully expected that the train was going to stop and ask for directions.

Asking for directions to the next fertilizer dealer to deliver the Bone Valleys best.

You're probably right on.  They were the smaller, dirty white cars.

Surprised you didn't see any Chessie covered hoppers. They're still a common sight up here on the St. Lawrence Subdivision of CSX along with Family Lines covered hoppers.

While I likely have, I can't recall ever having seen a Seaboard Coast Line covered hopper. They're certainly not common on this part of CSX unlike some of their other fallen flags.

I take it from your speed limit comment, it wasn't close to a siding or its destination.

One possibility is the last defect detector failed and they are limping along (to minimize any potential disaster) until they get a good roll by at the next detector.  Another is locomotive failure.  (and no, I'm not intentionally bashing CSX, road failures happen)
