NS has announced that it will be purchasing 52 new locomotives in 2005 which will be NS' first substantial order for new Tier 2 locomotives. Which model(s) will be ordered has not been announced..... They will likely be either the GE ES40DC, or the EMD SD70M-2...NS is receiving its final orders of Tier 1 locomotives at this time as Dash Nines and SD70M's will arrive on the property through years end. Go to this link and click on 'what's new' for details on NS' 2005 Spending Plan. http://www.nscorp.com Dave Williams http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nsaltoonajohnstown

A thread on another Webpage indicated that the current order of SD70M's being built as we speak will be counted in the 2005 budget's quote of 52 Locomotives. There are 25 SD70M's being built... that would leave 27 to be built in '05 which would be either SD70M-2's or ES40DC's, if that information is correct.
