Hi All,
This is just a message to inform anyone that railfans NS in Virginia that they have officially begun PTC installation on the Lynchburg-Alexandria stretch of their Piedmont division. At signal locations such as Clifton, Crestwood (Burke), and AF interlocking the ex-Southern Railway signals have been removed. Aswell as that, they have officially installed and given power to most of the new signals on the line. However, at CP Crestwood and CP Burke (And a few others), the ex-Southern signals are still standing. This, for me (And possibley for you) is a great photo-op. If you are able to, I would reccomend going to CP Crestwood (At the end of Sideburn Road), and seeing trains go under them while they are still up. The best times to go are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as rock/ballast trains such as P56 (EB) and P58 (WB) still utalize ex-Southern GP38-2 High-Hoods, and SD40-2 locomotives. In my opinon, nothing screams nostalgia like ex-Southern EMD power under ex-Southern signals, especially in the days of GEVOs and Cab Signals. Here is a picture I took of NS P56 heading under CP Crestwood on March 13th, 2016. The trailing unit (A remodeled SD40-2) is ex-Southern.
Happy Railfanning!
