All I want for Christmas is.....

Each year about this time my wife asks me what I want for Christmas. Each year about this time I keep asking for a nice EMD road locomotive, a private car, a diner, and a baggage car for all our "stuff".

So far UPS has failed to drop off the 87 foot long box that's about 20 feet tall in the driveway. Looks like another year of dreaming with my HO gauge set under the tree.

Seriously, though- I wonder how much it would cost to put a "private" train on a siding. As long as I'm dreaming about melting down the Alabama pension fund, I'd want to have the ability to take "my" train out as well for travel.

Hey, if Bill Gates could do it, why not dream big? Why heavens, I bet NS, CSX, BNSF and UP would leap enthusiastically at the opportunity to have my private train roll over their rails. I can just see the operating crews lining up at the extra board to sign on for that kind of duty....

Erik-

Take a look at the APRRCO website at http://www.aaprco.com/ they are an association of private car owners.

Also, take a look at the following sites for dealers in railroad equipment:

http://www.iltransit.com/ Illinois Transit Assembly Co.

http://www.ozarkmountainrailcar.com/ Ozark Mountain Railcar

http://www.railswap.org/ RailSwap

Cool beans! Thanks, LC!
My wife says that I can't touch her county teacher's pension, which I figure would be a golden opportunity to put both Alabama AND Georgia "out of bidness".

She also says that we will stick to an RV in our old age... maybe I should just see if I can buy an EMD builder's plate and stick it on the side of the RV.....
