Tough choices but I thought the double headed canadian had an old time flavor to it. I am confused by the CSX train that runs from Toledo to Cincinnati being on the E-W ex B&O line. I presume it operates via Fostoria.
The shot of the Canadian double header is cut off if I bring up the individual view, although I can see the whole image in the thumbnail panel. That makes it hard to judge.
I am still pondering my choice; the colour steam would have been better with white steam instead of black smoke. The Irish train is definitely seen on its sunnyside, even if the background dark cloud makes for a stunning image. Night photography could be considered the dark side from a time perspective, but I will interpret the theme differently.
Maybe I'm not open minded enough, but I don't see how about half of them fit the context of "the dark side". It's just as well, I suppose, as I had envisioned they would all be shots of NS black locomotives. In fact, there is a good variety of things.
Thanks to Chris / CopCarSS for my avatar.
I also went with Ireland. It stood out to me the most in what was an interesting group of photos.
I went with the photo from Ireland. It shows the impending foul weather nicely and an EMD export design as a bonus.
