Amtrak protests move to prioritize freight trains

The proposal, from the Surface Transportation Board, would reverse a current federal mandate that requires freight railways to give preference to Amtrak on tracks that are shared between passenger and freight trains.

Ever since the chairman of STB asked the railroads to articulate their PTC deadline plans, I’ve thought of the agency as a tool to facilitate legislation. Maybe somebody wants a new law.

  Old news.  The STB notice was publised on December 28 (Ex Parte 728).  Since then, the comments have been flowing in.
