You might check out the Rockville Bridge in Rockville, PA, north of Harrisburg, PA, where the Norfolk Southern crosses the Susquhanna River. Most of the trains are freight, and the traffic is heavy. To reach Rockville leave I 81 at the Front Street exit, and head north to the bridge.

Marion PA is another location on the ex Conrail Hagerstown line approxiately 20 miles north of Hagerstown. It is a small community, mostly of homes. It's a good location for photographing trains with older homes in the background. You can also photograph an NS train crossing the
Shenandoah River on a deck truss bridge at Shepherdstown, WV from the Rumsey Monument where you get a view of the bridge or the rain,

Hi,
I'm looking for tips for railfan foto spots along I-78 and I-81 from Pa through VA and East Tennessee. I'm driving that way next week enroute to Charleston and Columbia, SC, and would like to catch some mountain-type action. I probably will reach Roanoke the first day, and from there, I have two days to get to Charleston. Thanks for any tips.
