I was up in New York a week ago and noticed a large construction blanket like item over the front and sides of the building. Do you have any idea what Im taking about. I woulder if they are renovating the outside of the beatiful 101 year old building.

....Yes, that's the right time frame {1963-65}, that the Great Pennsylvania Station was destroyed and all operations moved below grade....Now, can anyone answer whether any work has started to create the "New Pennsylvania Station" acorss the street in the old postoffice building....All this was just getting starting and the 9-11 happened....Can anyone update...?

The really interesting work is happening underground, a new 8 track LIRR terminal the biggest passenger train station constructed since the thirties is being built beneath Grand Central. Penn Station is at capacity so this will take commuters to the East side via a new line from Queens.

In answer to the original question:

I recall reading somewhere that the MTA has taken up the restoration of GCT exterior now that the inside completed. As I recall, it includes cleaning, repairing of leaks, etc.

The Centennial of GCT is in the next few years and it may be timed for that occasion.
