The Obama Administration Announces Overhaul Of Federal Coal Leasing Program
Posted by zardoz on Sunday, January 17, 2016 2:55 PM

The website Progress Report sent me the following article; it concerns the coal mining and transortation "problem".

Here is a copy of a paragraph from the article:
The last time rules for coal mining on tax-payer public lands were updated, smoking was allowed on airplanes, airbags weren’t required in cars, and sewage was still dumped into the ocean. But today, the Obama administration announced a package of reforms to modernize and reform the federal coal leasing program.

I guess before deciding how bad this news is, how much coal is mined on these public lands?

Some sources claim that 30% of all US coal reserves lie under Federal land. Withe the current economic arrangements depriving tax payers of $1billion/year in lost revenue
